Masters of Fine Arts in Writing for Screen and Television Learning Outcomes
Graduates of Seaver College’s MFA Program in Writing for Screen and Television will possess:
- A command of the style and format of the thirty minute television show and the ability to produce such scripts
- A command of the style and format of the one hour television show and the ability to produce such scripts
- A command of the style and format of the feature screenplay and the ability to produce such scripts
- A commanding knowledge of the issues involved in adaptation including the ability to write an adaptation of their own
- A commanding knowledge of the history of American cinema along with the ability to analyze critically, discuss, and write about that history
- A commanding knowledge of film theory as it relates to issues of race, gender, religious belief, class and the ways in which these issues affect character and plot development – students will also possess the ability to analyze critically, discuss, and write about issues pertaining to film theory
- A clear perspective on the concept of “The Storyteller as Cultural Leader” and how that concept applies to them personally as writers leading lives of purpose, service, and leadership
