The Liberal Arts major is a diverse multiple-subject program organized around a cohesive academic plan. Designed to prepare students academically, socially, and culturally, graduates are involved in local, national, and international arenas. The major facilitates a well-rounded knowledge base by drawing from all seven major academic disciplines.
The core program of classes is designed to give a comprehensive background evenly distributed among all disciplines: fine arts; language; religion, philosophy, and culture; history; English composition and literature; social science; human development; mathematics; natural science.
Students also choose one of the following concentrations:
Fine Arts (art, music, or theatre emphasis)
Human Development (family studies, psychology, or sociology emphasis)
Language (Spanish, literature, or writing & rhetoric emphasis)
Social Science (history or social science emphasis)
Mathematics
Science
Sports Medicine/Physical Education
The Liberal Arts major provides a cross-disciplinary academic degree for students interested in pursuing a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential OR those interested in cultivating a comprehensive academic understanding of the disciplinary areas particular to liberal arts. Liberal Arts students interested in teacher education will be able to meet subject matter program requirements for the California 2042 Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. The major includes three education courses for teacher education students. Students with other career goals may select from these or different courses to complete degree requirements. If students are interested in a Single Subject credential, a concentration in the single subject is suggested. All credential candidates will be required to take the CSET examination.
