Giving Back

Legacy Campaign

Welcome Class of 2012!

What is the legacy campaign?

The Senior Class Legacy Campaign is a student-led effort to raise funds for Pepperdine University. The campaign was established in 1989, as an opportunity for graduating Seaver students to leave a legacy by giving something back to Pepperdine University. Today, the tradition continues for each graduating class, giving each senior a chance to leave a legacy for the future Pepperdine community.

The 2012 Senior Class Legacy

The Class of 2012 is revolutionizing the Legacy Campaign, a 23-year tradition of seniors giving back. As we transition from students to alumni, this is our opportunity to make a difference in Pepperdine's future. The percentage of alumni that donate each year is considered an indicator of satisfaction with their experience, which is why it is evaluated when the U.S. News & World Report ranks schools. Pepperdine's alumni giving percentage has considerable room for growth, so the Class of 2012 is going to change the tide. The Legacy Campaign is about participation. If everyone gave $5, the equivalent to a cup of coffee, it would add up to thousands of dollars supporting our favorite programs at Pepperdine. If we all give $5 per year for 5 years, not only would the financial contribution be multiplied, but the alumni donor participation would increase exponentially as future classes follow this new tradition. After five years we could triple the number of alumni giving back, which helps future students and adds value to your degree. All it takes is $5 for 5!

Why Does Pepperdine Need my money?

The University is funded by three major sources: tuition, endowment, and charitable giving. Endowment is the body of invested funds that produce annual income for a wide-range of programs such as financial aid and support for faculty. Unfortunately, tuition and endowment incomes do not cover all of the expenses of our great university. It is the generosity of our alumni, friends, and, yes, even students, that makes up the difference.

Why Does My gift matter?

Pepperdine would need an additional $56 Million in endowment to equal the amount of spendable money raised through annual giving last year. The majority of these gifts are under $250. Every gift makes a difference!
