Fine Arts Division
Majors
Seaver College's Theatre Department offers a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts, a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Media Production, a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Music, and a Secondary Teaching Credential.
You must audition and interview to be admitted into the Theatre Program.

Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts
Involvement in theatre arts is a fullfilling experience because theatre deals with the very essence of human existence. The theatre mirrors the human experience--our thoughts, our actions, our dreams, our disappointments.
The theatre arts major prepares an individual for work in both graduate programs and professional theatre, and it also lays a foundation for teaching theatre through the secondary school levels. A student who plans to teach at the university level will need additional graduate work and should, with the assistance of an advisor, carefully investigate appropriate programs of graduate study.
There is a required audition and interview process for admittance into the Theatre Major. The Theatre Department Coordinator will notify in writing those accepted into the Theatre Program.
First-Year Program
The theatre major should enroll in the typical first-year program as outlined in the Seaver College catalog and should enroll in Introduction to Theatre Research (THEA 201) in the first semester and Acting I (THEA 210) and Stagecraft (THEA 240) in the first year.
Course Requirements
In addition to the general education requirements, the theatre arts major must complete the core requirements listed below, plus 30 to 36 units in one of the three sequences: acting, or production/design, or directing. The program of study for each student must be developed with the concurrence of a faculty advisor.
A minimum grade of C- is required in any course that is part of the theatre major curriculum. Student who do not attain a grade of at least C- will need to repeat the course.

Secondary Teaching Credential
Students interested in teaching theatre at the secondary level can earn an English single subject teaching credential, which also qualifies them to teach theatre in California junior and senior high schools. The English course sequence is described in the Humanities and Teacher Education Division section of the Seaver College catalog.
By enrolling in summer school, a student can graduate in four years with a California Teaching Credential in English (emphasis in theatre) by taking the required thirty units in education as part of the student's undergraduate elective courses. More information about the credential courses can be found in the Teacher Education section of the Seaver College catalog.
