Department of THEATRE Application Process
Anyone applying for a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, Theatre and Media Production, or Theatre and Music must audition and interview to be admitted. Once you have decided to apply to the Theatre Program, you must complete the following steps.
- Call the Fine Arts Admissions Office at (310) 506-4111 to set up an audition/interview time. Audition days tend to fill up quickly.
- Complete the Theatre Program Application and submit all supporting materials at least 2 weeks prior to your audition/interview.
- Read the application and audition requirements carefully. If travel presents a problem you may audition by DVD or on YouTube. The deadline for submitting DVD or YouTube auditions for Fall 2012 acceptance is Friday, February 3, 2012.
- Complete the application for admission to Seaver College. You can apply to the Theatre Program and Seaver College at the same time.
You MUST Audition:
- To be accepted into the Theatre Program.
- To be eligible for a Theatre scholarship.
- To receive a recommendation from the Theatre Department for acceptance to the University.

You can find out about the university application process through The Office of Admission's website at http://seaver.pepperdine.edu/admission. Information on campus tours, financial aid and admission events throughout the year can be found on this website.
Audition/interview Preparation
Audition Preparation for the Acting Emphasis in Theatre Arts, the Theatre and Media Production major, and the Theatre and Music major
- Prepare two contrasting monologues, one contemporary and one classical that total no more than 4 minutes together. The classical selection could include works from Shakespeare, Moliere, Wilde, Shaw or any of the Greek plays. All material must be memorized.
- If you have a strength in singing, prepare one short song (16 bars that will showcase your range and ability) and bring your accompaniment on a CD.*
- Applicants for the Theatre and Music major must also audition for the Music Program. See the Department of Music Application Process.
- Prior to your audition, (1) fill out the online Theatre Application form, (2) mail a resume of theatre experience and a professional photograph (a senior class photo is acceptable) to the address below.
- Provide two letters of recommendation written by teachers, directors, or individuals who can talk specifically about your work and growth as a theatre artist. These letters are separate from your letters of recommendation sent to the Seaver College Office of Admission. Please be sure your recommenders have the right address.
All written material must be received prior to your audition. We recommend using a service that will provide you with a tracking number to ensure delivery. Acceptance for Fall 2012 is Friday, February 3, 2012.
Interview Preparation for the Emphases in Production/Design and Stage Direction
- Contact the Fine Arts Admissions Office division office to set up interview: 310-506-4111.
- Bring a portfolio of your directing or production design work to the interview
- Prior to interview, mail your resume and a recent photograph (a professional head shot is NOT necessary) Attn: Theatre Department Applicant Submission, at the address below.
- Provide two letters of recommendation written by teachers, directors, or individuals who can talk specifically about your work and growth as a theatre artist. These letters are separate from your letters of recommendation sent to the Seaver College Office of Admission. Please make sure your recommenders have the right address.
All written materials must be received prior to your interview. We recommend using a service that will provide you with a tracking number to ensure delivery. Acceptance for Fall 2012 is Friday, February 3, 2012.
