Fresh Sight
For this series of work I wanted to depart from the conventional
idea of beauty and subject matter and give viewers a glimpse into
the vitality and allure of the discarded, overlooked, and forgotten
objects of the world. I tried capturing the lingering life and
energy in what is often considered lifeless. I found my subject
matter abandoned in junkyards, on the side of the road, in back
alleyways, and open fields. By painting these objects, I took them
out of their static environment and gave them an environment that
compels viewers to see the beauty in the line, form, and design of
the objects themselves. Although they are corroded and broken, they
still maintain their original appeal. These paintings are intended
to give viewers fresh sight into commonly overlooked objects and
capture the vitality in their stillness.
