International Classical Guitar Virtuoso Joins Pepperdine's Music
Faculty
 |
One of the world's most widely
known and acclaimed classical guitarists, Christopher Parkening
has been named Distinguished Professor and Christopher
Parkening Chair in Music of Pepperdine University. Christopher
Parkening is celebrated as one of the world's preeminent
virtuosos of the classical guitar. For more than a quarter
century, his concerts and recordings have received the highest
worldwide acclaim. The Washington Post cited his stature as
"the leading guitar virtuoso of our day, combining profound
musical insight with complete technical |
| mastery of his
instrument." Parkening is recognized as heir to the legacy of
the great Spanish guitarist Andrés Segovia, who proclaimed
that "Christopher Parkening is a great artist-he is one of the
most brilliant guitarists in the world." |
Parkening, who began teaching in the Fine Arts Division in
the fall of 2002, said his decision to join Pepperdine's full-time
faculty was greatly influenced by the university's commitment to the
Christian faith. The Fine Arts Division welcomes Mr. Parkening and
looks forward to having him as one of our music faculty.
