Audition and Interview Information

You MUST Audition:

  • To be accepted into the Theatre Program.
  • For a theatre scholarship.
  • To receive a recommendation from the Theatre Department for acceptance to the University.

Audition Dates

Fall Audition

October 25th, 2008 from 10am-6pm

Spring Auditions

January 17th, 2009 from 10am-6pm
January 24th, 2009 from 10am-6pm
February 7th, 2009 from 3pm-10pm
February 14th, 2009 from 3pm-10pm

You must audition and interview to be admitted into the Theatre Program.  You must fill out a Theatre Department application form and submit all materials to be considered for admittance into the Theatre Program.  Please read over the application and audition requirements carefully.  If travel presents a problem you may audition by videocassette (VHS format) or DVD. You must call the Fine Arts Division at (310)506-4462 to set up an audition/interview time.

The deadline for submitting any DVDs or VHS through mail is February 17th, 2009.

Admission Information

Audition Preparation

Audition Preparation for Theatre or Theatre/Television

Acting Emphasis:

  • Prepare two contrasting monologues, one contemporary and one classical that total no more than 4 minutes together.  The classical selection could include works from Shakespeare, Moliere, Wilde, Shaw or any of the Greek plays.  All material must be memorized.
  • If you have a strength in singing, prepare one short song and bring a cassette or CD to sing with.  A boom box will be provided.
  • Prior to your audition, fill out the online form, mail a resume of theatre experience and recent photograph (a professional headshot IS NOT necessary) to Cathy Thomas-Grant at the address listed below.
  • Provide two letters of recommendation (separate from your letters to Admissions)

All written material must be received prior to your audition.

Production/Design Emphasis

  • Set up interview
  • Bring portfolio of your work to the interview
  • Prior to interview, mail your resume and a recent photograph (a professional head shot IS NOT necessary) to Cathy Thomas-Grant at the address below.
  • Provide two letters of recommendation (these are separate from your letters to Admissions.)
