Experiential Learning

Students behind the camera in the NewsWaves studio

At Pepperdine we don't just talk about communication; we provide you an opportunity to practice what you're learning. Students from all majors are welcome to take part in experiential learning regardless of class standing.

In the Communication Division, students create their own shows (radio, television, and internet), movies and more in our CCB studios. Our journalists write, edit, and produce our award-winning, Graphic newspaper, Currents magazine, and NewsWaves32 broadcast. The Waves Effect designs and launches public relations campaigns for clients both on and off campus. Students also participate in international competition and mentor elementary school students through our debate program.

Experiential learning, often called "co-curricular programs," offer high impact learning opportunities where students gain practice in a particular area beyond the classroom. These experiences provide opportunities for students to experiment and innovate.
