About the Program

Since 2001, nearly 200 students have participated in the Career Coaching Program. These students are matched with successful alumni and friends of the University and taught the secrets of their success and professional development. Since graduation, participants have started careers at places like General Electric, Four Seasons Hotel, Tiffany & Co., Teach for America, and Make a Wish Foundation.

The goal of the program is to help you prepare for the social and functional realities of the workplace. The program's curriculum helps to close the gap between where you are now and where you need to be. There is no fee to participate.

Structure and Time Commitment:

  • Kickoff Weekend:
Held in September over a Friday evening, 5:00pm-9pm, and Saturday, 10:00am-4:00pm.

You will be introduced to your Career Coach, the program, and the other students participants. Special attention will be spent on exploring and setting your personal and professional goals. You will also enjoy an Etiquette Lunch and learn about the MBTI Career Assessment. All meals will be provided. Attendance is mandatory.
  • General Sessions:
Held approximately every 3-4 weeks on Tuesday evening, 7:00-9:00pm, from September to December.

All coaches and all student participants join together to address key topics in you career development, such as Interviewing, Office Etiquette, and Career Advancement. Here, you will have the opportunity to get to know all the Career Coaches. Snacks will be provided. Full attendance is mandatory.
  • Final Banquet
Held in early December on Tuesday evening, 7:00-9:00pm.

Coaches, student participants, and program alumni enjoy a final semi-formal evening at the Drescher Executive Dining Hall. Attendance is mandatory.
  • Additional Contact:
Between each General Session, there is an additional required contact between students and their coach. To best accommodate your schedule, these interactions can be through email, telephone contact, or face-to-face interaction and are arranged independently between the participant and their coach. This may take place as a tour of your coach's workplace, dinner at their home, coffee at Starbucks, or lunch at the country club.
