I was nervous when I left home to come to Pepperdine; however, the first day on campus I met my suitemates and bonded with them immediately. From that day, my friendships have grown through my involvement in many clubs and activities. While studying abroad in Florence, I enjoyed several close-knit friendships that formed among the 49 other students and the faculty in my program as we traveled and learned about other cultures together. Pepperdine focuses not only on academic excellence, but also on personal excellence—encouraging students to use their intelligence and education to find where their passions intersect with the needs of the world. This inspired me to apply for and receive the Fulbright grant that will allow me to combine my literary passion with my interest in cultures when I travel to Turkey to research and write a book that will introduce Turkish culture to American children.
